What is Life Coaching?

Feeling Stuck?

Do you ever have that feeling that no matter what you do, and how hard you try, something seems to hold you back? Perhaps you are facing a new challenge at home or at work? Are you worrying and stressing everyday about things? Do you need help to restore confidence and focus? Do you need a well-qualified, experienced life coach to be by your side to help you regain your passion for life and get clear on what you really want?

Get in touch to find out how we can work together to create the changes in your life that you have been waiting for. Change is one of the hardest things to achieve on your own. As human beings we are hardwired to stick to what we know and what we feel safe with.

Making changes in our life requires us to get outside of our comfort zone, which is not an easy thing to do without help and support.

As your personal life coach I can help you to set goals and uncover things that have been holding you back for years. Behind many of the barriers to success are often negative core beliefs. Most of us do not even know they are there. But by ‘holding a safe place’ for you to explore this subconscious belief system you can make real, positive changes in your life. I can help you combat the negative back chatter that we always have whenever we try achieve goals on our own. And instead of being overwhelmed by the prospect of change in your life, you can feel motivated to take action.

Frequently Asked Questions

So what exactly is Life Coaching?

Life Coaching is a powerful form of what some people refer to as ‘talking therapy’. But in order for it to be effective it needs the life coach and the client to be prepared to do a bit of hard graft. If these two things are in place, the results can be incredible and life-changing.

It is a series of conversations that take place in a safe environment between a trained therapist and the client /coachee. As your life coach, I will support you through a series of searching and significant questions to reach a level of self-awareness which will open new doors for you. I will sometimes be a sounding board and sometimes act as a mirror reflecting back to you all the things that you have learnt about yourself. I will always hold a safe place for you to explore your thoughts and actions.

What is the difference between counselling and life coaching?

There are some similarities between counselling and life coaching for example, they are both conversational, build rapport and working on a positive therapeutic relationship.

However, whereas counselling is retrospective, mostly based in the past; coaching looks at where you are now and where you want to be. It is goal orientated and action focussed. It will only visit the past when necessary, in order to understand and obstacles that have held you back.

Is life coaching a therapy?

In as much as it can make you feel better, yes I think life coaching can be seen as a therapy. But it does not mean that you need ‘something to heal’ to benefit from life coaching. Many people know that they can live better lives, maintain balance and learn better coping strategies. Life coaching can achieve all of these things.

Just as you can have a fitness coach at the gym who helps you work out, encourages you and helps you set goals; a life coach can do the same by helping you change your thinking, leading to you living a happier life. You don’t have a broken body when you go to a fitness coach, you just realise that your body could improve in some areas. It’s the same with life coaching. You don’t need fixing, you only need motivation to achieve a better and happier version of yourself.

Does it work?

Most definitely yes, hence the massive growth in the popularity over the past 15-20 years. However it does require an investment of time and money from the individual and the skill and devotion of a good coach.

Will you give me the answers?

I’m afraid not, but I will help you find the answers.

This is where life coaching differs from being a consultant. Some of my clients have come to me asking if I’m going to tell them what to do and give them all the answers, but the life coaching approach maintains that you are always the expert in your own life. Trust me, you will have your own answers inside, even though I know it doesn’t feel like it sometimes, and that is where I come in. My expertise is in guiding you to solve your own problems. This is why life coaching is such a great investment, it provides you with the tools and self-awareness to tackle your own problems.

You will have a new mind-set to plan your own goals, not just now but in the future too. Although, as a life coach, I may sometimes provide tips, signposting or food for thought - I will always empower you with the decision making.

Is all Life Coaching the same?

While the principals of life coaching will always be the same, the styles and the way some life coaches work may vary. Some life coaches are general like myself, while others are niche (relationship coaching , retirement coaching ,musician coaching, business coaching).

I prefer to keep my coaching open. As life is so interconnected if you can make positive changes in one area like your health, then the ripples will be far reaching and improvements will be felt in other life-sectors such as: career, relationships, sleep etc. I have coached a wide variety of clients in my career and prefer to keep my coaching open to all.

Over the years I have adapted an organic approach tailored around my client’s needs. This way we can ensure focus and achieve rapid results. I do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach, so our coaching sessions will be personalised to your needs.

How life coaching can benefit you

What are the benefits of life coaching?

A New Outlook

Life Coaching helps develop a positive outlook and encourages action. My clients report a direct positive effect on their health, relationships and happiness levels.

They tell me that they have less negative self-talk and many have been released from feelings of bitterness, regret and resentment that have been holding them back for years.

An Investment in You

Life Coaching is an investment in yourself and your future. If you really apply yourself to the life coaching process you will acquire new skills and insights that will really help your personal development.

We can begin by taking an overview of your life and together identify the areas that need action and/or attention.

Action Oriented

I will help you set clear, measurable goals and we will work out the action steps towards achieving them.

This is why life coaching is so powerful, because it is action orientated. When occasionally my clients struggle to take action on their tasks, we look at why this has not been possible - this is also a self-discovery opportunity.

Self-Awareness

Most of us have a negative self-talk which holds us back and tells us we are not good enough. You will find that these feelings will take a back seat or even become completely eradicated after working together.

I will ask significant questions, which through moments of realisation will help you achieve a deep level of self-awareness. Working together we can eliminate those limiting beliefs and expand your comfort zone. During your coaching journey I will be the support you need to connect with your inner wisdom. My clients have found benefits in the following keys areas: confidence, coping with change, stress management, relationships and work-life balance.
